David Brett

David Brett came late to the law. Admitted as a lawyer in 2008 David previously held management positions in operations, human resources and business consulting to the hospitality, retail and consumer goods industries.
In addition to his formal qualifications in the law, David holds a Master's Degree in Business Management.
Given his earlier experience in management and consulting, David has a well-developed understanding of the context within which business decisions are made.
David listens to the needs and problems of his clients and then explores the options and their commercial implications. He applies his commercial experience in the hunt for the most commercial, cost-effective and appropriately quick outcome.
Frequently a commercial approach means avoiding legal action. He warns business clients against believing they can get instant justice and full compensation. Even if you win a court case, he notes, "you never get all your costs back ... In commercial conflicts, it's often difficult to identify winners and losers."
It's also about thinking beyond the immediate problem, he says. "Sometimes in resolving the current issue you can also put in place processes to avoid being in the same situation again."
